Yours To Win

I don’t like boring, bland food.  I’d rather err on the side of too many seasonings than too little.  I like flavors that pop, and I’m always on the lookout for different ways to add flavor to my menu items.  I recently stumbled across Salt Traders and they offer an interesting way to mix things up:  unique salts, peppers, sugars, honeys, oils, vinegars, and condiments.  Some of the items that intrigue me the most include Aleppo Chile salt, Comet’s Tail pepper, Maui Gold sugar, sage honey, lemon oil, and wild cherry balsamic vinegar.

Salt Traders sent the Didi Davis Food Sugar Blend collection my way for review.  The packaging is even more appealing in person than it is in the picture (below).  I love the rainbow-esque spectrum of labeling tape and the complimentary font.  The 0.7 oz. jars are a nice sampling size, and I appreciated the chance to taste test so many different varieties.  The artisanal sugar blends are all-natural and made with cane sugar.  The blends include Curry Sugar, Orange Ginger Sugar, Lemon Sugar, Mojito Sugar, Espresso Sugar and Spiced Gold Sugar.  Each sugar sample was vibrant and unique both visually and in terms of flavor.  I can imagine many uses for this collection:  in yogurt, teas, desserts, oatmeal, on fresh fruit… yum.   I especially enjoyed the  Orange Ginger Sugar and Lemon Sugar – I’ve been in a citrus mood lately.  The Curry Sugar was also pretty spectacular.  It had a rich, warm taste which somehow reminded me of pumpkin pie.  By no fault of its own, the only sugar that I wouldn’t love to have a larger quantity of is the Espresso.  One of these days I’ll learn to like/tolerate coffee…
